Thanks for your comment. I agree with all of your points, but I just want to elaborate on my thoughts a bit more.

“Not reading the resume at all” is a bit exaggerating. I take a quick glance on the first page to get what the candidate is doing currently and years of experience, but that doesn’t matter when it comes to coding and algorithm skills, so I prefer not to pay much attention to the resume.

I agree with the IDE autocomplete for our daily work. I wouldn’t fail a candidate for not remembering the syntax, but I’m interested to see whether the candidate has practiced enough for this coding interview. For me, I usually practiced on Leetcode’s plain text editor a few weeks before I took an interview.

I would let the hiring manager do the small talk and evaluate the candidate’s soft skills during the behavioral interview. I hope I gave everyone the same treatment and fair judgment solely on the coding skills.
